Our Sustainable Mindset

Kanvas has sustainability at its very heart

In every project we undertake we consider the environmental implications of all our activities and services at every stage. As part of the Willmott Dixon Group we benefit from being able to access a panel of well respected environmental leaders, including:

  • Jonathon Porritt, Jonathon joined the Willmott Dixon Group in January 2009 as a Non-Executive Board Director to advise and challenge our ways of thinking and ways of working.

  • John Frankiewicz, CEO Willmott Dixon, Core Board Member of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)

  • George Martin, Head of Sustainable Development Willmott Dixon (also on the M&S Plan A Sustainability Advisory Board), member of the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Zero Carbon Task Force and UKGBC Board member.

At Kanvas we will aim are to minimise adverse environmental impacts as far as practicable, undertake all our operations on a more sustainable basis and promote beneficial effects of our activities. To achieve this we have implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) which is ISO 14001 accredited and developed to our own sustainable development objectives tailored for fit-out and refurbishment sector.

Our commitment to sustainability is derived from the standards set by Willmott Dixon, who were ranked 3rd overall in the UK's Greenest Contractor in the 2009 Sunday Times Green List. Our approach to sustainability can be focussed into four key areas:

Putting people first

People are at the forefront of everything that we do, whether they be involved in or affected by our projects – therefore people will always play a pivotal role in sustainable development. It is natural therefore that we are fully committed to meeting clients’ needs, developing our staff, engaging positively with our supply chain and making
a positive impact on the wider community.

Climate change and energy efficiency

As a company, we are committed to reducing our emissions and developing design solutions for the built environment that continue to minimise energy use once in operation and over the years continue to be climate change-resilient. In this respect
our aim is to be carbon neutral by 2012.

Smarter Use of natural resources

From a project design perspective, we are in the position where we can make
smarter use of natural resources through efficient use of materials and water, waste minimisation and enhancing natural environments through the buildings we fit out.
We have a commitment to achieving zero waste to landfill by 2012.

Responsible Business

We pride ourselves in applying best practice to our activities above and beyond legislative requirements, setting clear structures, strategies and targets and transparently reporting our performance. We will continue to collaborate with external organisations to ensure that we are addressing key areas of sustainability.
